Work hard, play hard

Tomorrow wraps up the business portion of my Euro-adventure and then the real fun begins!

It's been an interesting trip to say the least and I can't believe how quickly the time has passed.  I've been having flashbacks to college all week as I sat in my transformer design course - physics, excel, calculus, materials science, I think we've touched it all.

I have definitely learned a lot about transformer design but I won't bore you with those details since I know that you probably don't care about transformers unless your power is out or you're watching the movie (not the same thing!)

The main thing I've learned this week is how American I am.

Being in Germany with colleagues from Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, India, and Poland has really opened my eyes to just how easy we have it in America. We take for granted the fact that English is generally the common language spoken and we miss out on a lot of culture because of this.

The convenience of being an American doesn't stop at language barriers.  We can freely move between states without paying any attention to it.  I'm not saying it's difficult to go to other countries but can you imagine traveling to a neighboring state and they have completely different language, culture, laws...? I can't.

My least favorite thing about traveling Europe is trains.  Why does it have to be so complicated?!  I have to take four trains to get from Bad Honnef, Germany to Amsterdam, Netherlands tomorrow... yes, FOUR!  I'll take my car back now...

The time difference had made life quite interesting this week.  Since I deal with customers from coast to coast, I generally get calls for a good 12 hours a day but this week I have worked from sun up until after the sun has gone down due to the time change.  And the emails didn't stop after I was asleep...

Joking (and complaining) aside, this has been an incredible experience for me to network with colleagues from different transformer factories and educate myself on the product that I sell.

I've worked very hard this week and I can't wait to have a little fun in Amsterdam with my bestie this weekend!

Auf wiedersehen..
