Top ten reasons I'm moving to South Boston

I have to admit that since I decided to take a permanent position in the small town of South Boston, I've had some interesting reactions to the news.  Some people wonder why a city girl like me is moving to the country to work in a factory -- fair enough.

While I don't feel the need to justify my decision to anyone, I realize that I may find myself asking the same question some day (but I certainly hope not!).  So here's a little reminder to myself if those feelings ever arise.

1. Traffic The traffic in Raleigh is ridiculous! I never realized how bad it was until I moved away and then moved back.  The worst traffic to hit South Boston is a tractor.

2. Co-workers While working in Raleigh, all of my co-workers worked in other states.  Sitting in a cubicle with no in-person communication is miserable for a people person like myself.

3. Peace/space/happiness I'm so tired of listening to my neighbors walk around or their dogs bark or having them park their humongous truck eight inches from my car...

4. Career I wanted a career, not a job.  I'm ready to settle down in a specific industry and make my mark accordingly. I have been offered a great career opportunity to interface with customers on some of our major accounts.

5. Friends I made some really awesome friends in South Boston.

6. Factory I have always enjoyed being in manufacturing facilities and seeing the end result of a long process. Working in Raleigh solidified that I need to be in a factory-type environment.

7. Close to home While moving for a career in ABB is a must, it is always great to be close to home. I love my family and am very happy to be a one-day, drive-able distance away.

8. Important/invisible technology While most of you don't notice substations and transformers as you drive down the road like I do, the importance of transformer technology is undeniable.  I don't see this technology going away any time soon.

9. Travel My new job gives me an opportunity to travel.  I am sure that someday I will not be so thrilled with all of the travel but I'm young and I want to see as much of this planet as I can!

10. NO MORE MOVING! (At least for a while) I am so glad that this is my last move for the foreseeable future! Even my movers said, "you're moving again already?"
