It took me months of dedication to get where I wanted to be and, unfortunately, there is no pause button to stop and enjoy it. Every day you have to push your body to maintain what you have worked so hard for.
The truth of the matter is, it takes months to get where you want to be and only days to lose it all. My week off added things I didn't like back to the mirror but the beautiful thing about reaching your goal is that it is generally easier to maintain. Please note that I said "easier" and not "easy"...
I have actually found it incredibly difficult to maintain the exact place that I want to be. I get too skinny so I decide to eat more and then when I eat more I end up back where I don't want to be again.. it's a terrible cycle, really.
I've struggled with how to approach the topic of weight maintenance because I feel like most people who are struggling with weight loss don't want to hear about it. Well, listen up people... whether you're losing, gaining, or maintaining, it's all the same struggle. It all takes dedication and devotion and extreme will power.
There are two beautiful things about reaching your goals that I think help me to maintain what I've worked so hard for:
- You know you can do it! You've already conquered so much.
- Muscle memory. Once you've built muscle, it's ten times easier to get it back after a break (a short break).
